Your drive may need cleaning. I think it’s a hardware problem. The drive is probably crapped up. So maybe if you try a new on, it’ll work.

You see, hardware (eg. your CD-rom @ CD writer) do have losses (wear off). In this world, there are no electrical appliance that are free from losses, for example copper losses. You can see the effect of the loss from your CD-reading device when it can no longer read the CD. The losses occur at the laser lens, the device to read @ burn the CD. Even though the device manager show that it was working properly, it is just showing that the driver is working properly, not the hardware. I suggest you buy a new CD-writer, you can’t use that one anymore, especially when your computer is acting like that, it will only make your computer system worsen as you did not shutdown properly. I hope you don’t have to buy a new hard disk and CD-writer together as a result of using a corrupt CD-writer.

P/s: Especially when you are using windows XP or CD that has autoplay (including audio cd because it trigger an autoplay of the Windows media player or winamp), the drives will keep on trying to ‘open’ the CD even though it doesn’t have the capability of doing so, resulting a crash in your system
