Hardware reliability is pretty much the same from any of the common name brands.
Software is more often where problems are. And it's pretty much guaranteed that with Windows you will run into problems with the OS and software before any hardware goes bad.

I have two options for this

Dell is great for price and customer service. You can get a good computer for a low price. If something goes wrong their customer service is great at walking you through fixing it. That being said, I work at a place with over 500 computers and Dells constantly have hardware problems after the warrantee expires. Power supplies, memory, and hard drives all go bad all the time. We even had 90% of one batch of Dells need new power supplies 2 months after warrantee.

2nd option is HP. I can't say much for HPs support other than it is fine and the computers are a little more expensive than Dell. HPs do not break down the same way though. I've never seen hardware problems on HP the way I've seen on Dell, only the occasional failure.

I've been buying computers for my clients for the past 5 years. I always go with Dell. You can customize them and, they are always the least expensive.
